ADHD More Often Missed in Minority Kids

Researchers indicate that black kids with  symptoms of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) were less likely to be diagnosed and treated for the disorder.

Hispanic children were also more likely to be diagnosed and treated for ADHD. More black kids were likely to have the symptoms of ADHD compared to white kids. However, fewer Hispanic kids were likely to have ADHD compared to the white kids.

It was thought that the parents of these children did not look and spot the ADHD symptoms so that they can take their children to the doctor. Pediatricians may want to consider universal screening of children to catch or rule out ADHD.
