Alex Ferguson Lung Cancer Advert Helps Increase Early Detection

ID-10079200An increase of 24.7 percent in the diagnosis of stage one lung cancer has been reported in Scotland since adverts featuring Sir Alex Ferguson were screened. The adverts carry the message by Sir Alex Ferguson, former Manchester United manager, who tells the public of how early detection gives extra time with your family. His parents died from lung cancer.
The Detect Cancer Early programme by the Scottish government aims at increasing the number of people diagnosed with early stage lung, bowel and breast cancer by 25 percent before the end of 2015. It is reported that people are 20 times more likely to survive lung cancer upon early detection compared to a late stage two diagnosis.
