Experts: Screen More Kids for Middle Ear Fluid

New guidelines from the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery foundation recommend that children with developmental issues and syndromes should be checked for fluid in the middle ear. The problem is referred to as otitis media with effusion and clears on its own after 4 to 6 weeks. In some cases, it fails to clear and becomes infected leading to impaired hearing.
