Hookah Bar Workers At Risk From Secondhand Smoke

cigarettesHookah or shisha smoking is a popular trend today and many young people mistakenly believe that it is relatively safe. New studies have shown that hookah bar workers are at risk of lung and heart disease owing to exposure to smoke.

Secondhand smoke has been shown to cause 3000 deaths from lung cancer among the nonsmokers. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that hookah is as toxic as cigarette smoking.

The research from the New York University’s College of Global Public Health (CGPH) and the Langone Medical Center tested hookah bar employees indicated raised levels of toxins and markers for inflammation which are associated with cardiac and pulmonary disorders.
