Kids Mean less Shuteye for Mom, While Dad Slumbers On

A new survey has found that mothers with children at home were likely to be sleep-deprived compared to women without children. Children at home did not affect the sleep patterns of the fathers.

Key takeaways:

– Women with children reported that they were tired 14 days every month compared to 11 days for women without children.

– With the increase of one child in the house, there was a 50 percent increase in the likelihood if insufficient sleep.

– Mothers with children between newborn and 3 years got less sleep compared to mothers of children between 3 and 6 years.

Mindell suggests parents make a plan as to who is going to take care of household duties, including child care, so each parent can have a goal of enough sleep.
