Laser: A Breast Cancer Treatment Alternative?

ID-100111147New research suggests that laser ablation, the use of laser to heat and destroy tumors, is an effective way to treat small and early stages of breast cancer eliminating the need of lumpectomy. The technique is called Novilase Breast Therapy and involve the insertion of small probes in the tumor and using heat from the laser to destroy it. The tumor tissue that was heated will shrink slowly and form a scar. The technique has been lauded for saving women from lumpectomy and that it is cosmetically appealing. Other advantages were that the treatment takes shorter time and has brief recovery periods.
