Pot While Pregnant May Raise Premature Birth Risk

pregnant 3A new study reveals that women who continue using marijuana up to 20 weeks of gestation have a five times higher risk of preterm birth.

The early delivery increases the risk of long-term disabilities and the risk of death for the baby. The baby will inevitably get admitted into a neonatal intensive care unit if born prematurely.

The widespread use of marijuana among young women of reproductive age following continued marijuana legalization is a public health concern. The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology advises that pregnant women should discontinue the use of marijuana.
