Sleep Apnoea and Snoring Linked To Earlier Cognitive Decline, Dementia

girl-sleepingResearch indicates that both sleep apnoea and snoring are linked to decline and cognitive decline. Sleep apnoea has been linked to numerous health conditions such as diabetes, obesity, and hypertension. The study evaluated people with untreated sleep breathing problems versus those without sleep problems.

The findings of the study were that 52 percent of elderly men and 26 percent of elderly women showed abnormal breathing patterns in their sleep such as heavy snoring and sleep apnoea.

The people with untreated sleep breathing were diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment or Alzheimer’s disease ten years earlier than the people without sleep breathing problems.
