A study carried out in the U.S. indicates that many teen smokers use other drugs. Even the teenagers who smoked occasionally used other drugs such as marijuana, hallucinogens, alcohol and prescription drugs.
- The results reveal that multi-drug use is prevalent among adolescents as opposed to earlier estimations.
- Drug use in adolescence is a source of great concern since the drug problem ends up becoming chronic and persistent.
- Teenagers that used the hard drugs were at greater risk of having depressive symptoms when assessed up to three years later.
“This tells us that multidrug use among adolescents may be more prevalent than we think, and that even kids who smoke only occasionally are likely to be doing other drugs,” she said in a university news release.
