Permanent cure for tonsil stones can only be achieved by removing or flattening the holes and crypts that run through the tonsils. Some of these go right through to the edge of the tonsil, so more than one procedure can be required. It can be performed under local anaesthetic spray as a lunchtime procedure in clinic. Paracetamol levels of pain are usually gone after 4-5 days.
