Kinetic Oscillatory Stimulation (KOS) for nose blockage

Many people suffer from a congested, runny nose and frequent sneezing, a symptom called Rhinitis. Rhinitis makes breathing difficult and may therefore disrupt sleep, which in turn creates tiredness.

Non-allergic rhinitis (NAR) is a common issue which can impact the quality of your life if left untreated. In fact, non-allergic rhinitis can lead to associated health issues such as chronic ear infestion, asthma and obstructive sleep apnoea.

Treatment of Non-Allergic Rhinitis

There is a range of treatments for NAR. These may include antihistamines, corticosteroids and surgery. Antihistamines may provide short-term relief and surgical procedures may offer a suitable solution; if you are a sufferer of rhinitis, you can find our more about the treatment options for blocked nose. One new option worth considering is Kinetic Oscillatory Stimulation (KOS).

Kinetic Oscillatory Stimulation (KOS) for nose unblocking

Kinetic Oscillatory Stimulation (KOS) is a new treatment to relieve the symptoms of blocked nose, constant sneezing and nasal congestion. It provides a patient-friendly, non-surgical approach which does not require anaesthetic or medication. It is ideal when chronic nose blockage doesn't seem to respond to steroid sprays and isn't related to nasal polyps or a bend in the nasal septum.

KOS treatment is stimulates the nasal mucosa and the autonomic nervous system. It is basically a little balloon you insert into the nose, which then has high frequency oscillation put into it.  It vibrates the inside of the nose over a period of ten minutes per nostril and causes the nasal lining to shrink back.

KOS is painless, it is done in the clinic and takes 20 minutes. Effects are immediate and last for several months or longer, although a second treatment is recommended after one month.

The cost is £495 for both sides of the nose. This does not include the cost of initial consultation and clinic endoscopy at HealthHub, which is £250. First follow up consultation is free of charge.
