Recovery from blocked nose surgery

Operations in this area do not tend to be painful. However the nose does respond very quickly to stimulation - such as dryness, humidity, and temperature etc of inspired air. Surgery is a form of stimulation, so there is quite marked congestion post op usually for up to 1 week.

Use of decongestant and salt water sprays helps this immensely. Infection and bleeding can be serious, so it is routine for this author to prescribe strong antibiotics for a week after surgery with more involved nose unblocking operations such as septoplasty.
