The arrow points to a concavity in the inferior turbinates, formed after laser turbinoplasty under local anaesthetic in clinic. Only 5 mm or so of airway widening, but this can make a big difference to the sensation of air flow and blockage. Easy to do with return to work straight away.

Hello Dr. Mike, I heard that nasal surgery will probably cause Empty Nose Syndrome (ENS), is that true?

Hello there, well you do need to be careful when operating on the inferior turbinate. That's why I perform turbinoplasty, it preserves the lining but shrinks it back. Much safer than the old procedure which removed a lot of the lining/mucosa (turbinectomy).

Hello, I'm not a great believer in surgical intervention for nasal polyps. I can usually control them with intensive medical therapy.
